Narthex, Nave + Cloister
Renovations to this historically significant structure include the addition of a narthex to the existing church cloister. The courtyard contained within the cloister was converted to a gathering space for congregants and houses a new fountain. Public restrooms were added to the building. New lighting and AV equipment were added to the nave, highlighting the historic architecture and supporting the varying uses of the space.
“MAROTTA/MAIN ARCHITECTS listened carefully and guided us wisely. They blended innovative design and new materials as well as matching the arts and crafts design [of our historic building] with salvaged materials and local artisan products. The result was an outstanding and cost effective blending of architectural styles that sensitively creates holy space that is both historic and contemporary.”
