North Museum Renovations
Children and adults have enjoyed the North Museum of Nature and Science since 1953, but aging exhibits and outdated technology needed an update. MAROTTA/MAIN ARCHITECTS completely renovated the first floor to give visitors a more interactive experience. In the new Nature Explorer Gallery, guests can learn about objects in discovery boxes, sit inside a realistic maple tree, and observe the activity in an indoor beehive. The old plaster planetarium was removed to make way for a new panel screen system with a digital projector dome, giving the North Museum the largest planetarium dome in Central Pennsylvania. Cohesive signage engages and educates throughout the Museum.
Features also include display cases for 300,000 + artifacts, a gift shop, kitchen and catering areas, a new accessible ramp and restrooms, and updated lobby space.
